The Impressionist, new collection from Rant
Posted on February 25 2013
I have always loved the colour and texture of the Impressionist painters. I have a large Van Gogh 'sunflowers' picture that I have had on my wall for many years and always loved the way you can see the texture of the paint, even though mine is just a print.
When I found a silk print that looked like brush strokes of colour and texture, I was inspired to pull out my art books, borrow some more books from friends and create the transeasonal collection called 'The Impressionist'
This collection starts with lighter layers as the weather is at it's hottest in February when we start deliveries. Then as Autumn sets in you can add layers of bamboo jersey followed by a sheer wool blend and finally pure Merino wool layers to make the lighter garments into winter garments. In Brisbane we do get cold weather (believe it or not) and I do live in wool for our 6-8 weeks of winter. Sometimes during the middle of the day I will have to take some layers off, and you will see that all the wool items are perfect for this adaptable task.
When I was sewing the samples in winter last year, my fingers were freezing until I made myself some 'cosy arms' Check them out in April when the stock of the Merino layers are available.
The Matisse tunic and Monet top are in a beautiful poppy print silk in blue red or natural. These items like all collection pieces are limited edition and not on going fabrics (so visit your nearest retail store ) or see the current Rant collection here to grab a piece or two while stock is available.
Sharon McCarthy who creates the Collaborate jewellery that matches the Rant and Bestowed collections, went on this journey as well. She found some beautiful Czech crystal flowers that are the highlight detail on the Monet's garden necklace, and also made a spectacular piece called the Toulouse. This takes Sharon 1.5 hours to make each one, adding all the little details. It can be looped over the neck a few times as a shorter necklace and you can also wear it loosely draped around the waist or hips (see the picture on the left above with the mustard Abundant tunic).
All of these new styles and colours will match any Rant pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Mix and match to make more combinations.
