Behind the Scenes of the ‘Paperwings’ photoshoot + Pop Up Event info
•Posted on October 11 2022
Yay, photoshoot day!
My favourite part is shoot day, when everything comes together.
The photoshoot location for ‘Paperwings’ was not far from our home studio (keeping with the local theme) at my friend Deb’s home and garden. Deb has lots of native plants and trees along with many Richmond Birdwing Vines, so a perfect match for this collection. We all got a great workout too as it was quite a steep hike down to the bush and back up to the house.
Ruby was our model of choice, the stunning Aboriginal model we photographed in our merino collection a few months ago. I knew Ruby would look stunning in the outfits but also she has the most beautiful face, and the perfect shaped eyes for the decorative eyeliner look I wanted to have to give the feel and shape of butterfly wings.
Gemma our hair and makeup guru, really loved the style theme of Brigitte Bardot, scarves around gently teased hair, the heavy eyeliner and minimal foundation and lips, to leave Ruby’s stunning skin to show through. She mixed some greens together to create a custom colour that worked with all the outfits.
The shoot was all about the ‘Paperwings’ print, the one that was created from Les Kendall’s paper sculptures (see previous journal to read all about the print). Todd took pics of the digitally printed silk scarf with the actual sculptures to tell the story. The close up images show how amazing these sculptures are, such detail, so real looking!
Tosca the chocolate coloured Lab pup was our constant companion for the shoot. She followed us around and loved having lots of friends over for the day. Although we did have to be careful when she spied the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly sculpture in Ruby’s hand. It’s not a toy!
So here’s a few snaps from the day, and a few outtakes which are always good to see. It shows the general mood of the shoot, laughs and good dose of silliness.
The collection will be launching with a two day Pop Up Event down the road from our home studio. The venue is One Body Studio (5/858 Waterworks Rd, The Gap), my Pilates studio, and my ‘happy place’. It's a stunning space and perfect to have our event at.
The event is running on the 28th and 29th October. Further details about the Pop Up Event can be seen here
This is a very limited release (less than 10 garments of some styles) and at this event you can feel the fabric and try the garments on. The artist Les Kendall and I will both be there to chat with you and Les’s paper moth sculptures (shown in their 'moth boxes' below) will be available for purchase along with our garments and other goodies.
We understand that many of our loyal RANT customers are unable to be here for the event and we want you to know that we have thought of you too. The remaining garments will be online after the event and we will be taking requests and compiling a ‘wish list’. Then we will cut the balance of the limited fabric into the exact garments needed and they will be ready during the month of November.
This collection has been created as sustainably as possible, no over production, and all the cotton 'Paperwings' garments being hand cut in our studio at The Gap and sewn by Jacinta in New Farm. Hyperlocal production all in our Brisbane community and made with love and care.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting many of you in a couple weeks.
Cheers,
Sarah
