Cellulose Clothing

Regenerated cellulose fibres are man-made, originating from natural, renewable plant sources and undergo a variety of processes to transform them into a textile. There are various versions of these textiles including, cupro, tencel and modal.

Cupro is made from cotton linter, the fine, fuzzy fibers left on cottonseeds after processing. Its source is essentially cotton waste, a byproduct of the cotton industry. Because of its softness and luxurious drape it is sometimes referred to as 'vegan silk'.

The cellulose for making modal fabrics is derived from beech trees. These fibres are also silky soft and breathable, as well as using low amounts of water. Tencel is similar to modal but is a particular brand name where the cellulose originates from several species in sustainably managed forests (including eucalyptus, spruce and beech). Tencel textiles are also made using closed-loop production processes where water and chemicals are almost entirely recycled, so one of the most eco-friendly options.
